My older sister helped out at the local class and I went along and saw two of my best friends from school surrounded by all these girls so I thought it must be good. What is your favourite dance/performance ever and why? So far my favourite performance has to be our European Championships in Siberia, Russia as we had a lot of Evgeniya’s family supporting us and it was our first European Final that we made. What has been your favourite career highlight? Favourite career highlight was our first competition together after only 3 weeks. We danced our National Championships in Blackpool and came 2nd in the professional ballroom after only several weeks together. What has been the biggest challenge of your career? Accepting that sometimes our qualities can be our flaws and learning to compromise. If you hadn’t become a dancer, what else might you have done? I played county level football and I was having a lot of trials for clubs when I was just starting out dancing. I had to make a decision after a few years when I made the International Junior Ballroom Final so it was an easy choice as I was never in the top 6 in the world at football! What is your pre-performance routine/superstitions? Prepare, prepare, prepare. Not only in the physical side of training so that bodily you are ready but the little things like making sure all your shirts are ready, extra bow ties, cufflinks etc that way you will never run into a panic about the things that require no hard work and talent. Everyone should arrive on the floor prepared in every aspect then it leaves the competition down to how hard you’ve worked! What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given as a dancer? My old man quoted a line to me many years ago and he still does and it holds pretty true! “The man makes it, the woman shapes it….if she wants to!” What’s the best piece of advice you could give to a young dancer? Always remember to enjoy and love what you do. Find a good teacher that makes learning fun, it’s the best way to create longevity in your career. What is the first thing which comes to mind when you say “Freed of London”? Freedom (to do what I want with my feet) What is your favourite Freed of London item My white flexi fits that Freed of London made for me for this year’s Professional Team Match in Blackpool. Matched perfectly with my white tail suit! Well done to our sponsored dancers Sasha and Olessia who competed in the Kremlin Cup Russia and won 2nd place in amateur Latin
Congratulations to Jade Overthrow and Cameron Leitis who won 1st place in all Ballroom and Latin events at The 2015 West of England Open Championship
